Collaboration with Météo France on plastic pellet drift calculations

Cedre has been working with Météo France to improve drift calculations for plastic pellets at sea, as part of a project led by students at the Ecole Nationale de la Météorologie.

This work, which was based in part on experimental data acquired by Cedre, was completed in April 2024 and showed that the tools currently used by Météo France could be used to monitor the drift of plastic pellets at sea.

However, further development appears necessary, in particular via the acquisition of new experimental and field data, in order to produce a reliable, operational model for assessing the drift of plastic pellets at sea.
